Frequently Asked Questions.

I’ve never been to therapy before, what’s it like?

Therapy with me is about the exploration of your goals and what is getting in the way of living a fulfilled life. We address your thoughts and feelings and how they impact what you do. Then we assess what you can do outside of our hour to get you closer to your goals. It can feel scary to open up and talk, and it can be uncomfortable to make changes. This is normal. If I’m doing my job correctly, this will start to feel easier over time.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on a lot of factors. We spend time at the beginning of therapy and throughout our work together assessing your goals, how therapy is going and when you know you will be ready to graduate. This is a process we go through together and it can be different for different people. Therapy is not a quick fix. Think about a skill that you have learned in the past. It takes time and consistency to get proficient.

Will you tell me what to do?

Nope. Humans are complicated beings. What works for me in my life, may not work for you in yours. Through exploration, and understanding who you are, I can bring in ideas that may resonate with you. Then we figure out and experiment what may or may not work.

What if we realize we’re not a good fit?

First of all, thank you thank you thank you for your honesty. Second, I can connect you with a number of other therapists, don’t worry. It is SO important to me that you find someone that you like and that you feel can support you in your journey. The relationship you have with your therapist is a really special one, and if that’s not with me, that’s okay!
